The very first positive about Elementary is obviously Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. As unlikely the pairing might be, Miller and Liu created a charming chemistry. Miller’s Holmes is average but Miller himself is fascinating to watch and Liu is pretty much the same. And I think this is what makes it works; Miller and Liu isn’t actually playing Holmes and Watson, but they’re playing themselves in a detective role play. This actually works to the shows advantage, because a lot of things about Elementary is unconventional and non- canonical that having a traditional Holmes and Watson dynamic would not have worked. While this will and have irked purists; it still works.

Next is the writing, but to be very specific, the teleplay of the crime is very good. It’s intelligent, well constructed and resolved well which is why we like Sherlock Holmes stories. A crime was committed, a mystery ensues, it gets solved in an intelligent way and people feel stimulated.
