A logger defends his family from a group of dangerous drug runners. Jason Momoa shines as Joe Braven in Braven a film that i was expecting it to be good or bad (depending on the trailer) but ended up being better than the typical action movies of today with lots of heart and action when the time is right. First of all the film is slow which might bother some people since it takes it’s time to lead to the whole shoot out plus we learn some stuff like Joe’s dad is sick or his relationship with his daughter which i thought was great and props to little Sasha Rossof for being convicing as a whole. Also Stephen Lang was excellent as his dad and i felt sorry for him alot of times threw out the movie but even tho it’s dramatic parts are great and has some great shots and a cool opening the film’s true potential shows when Momoa goes full ‘Rambo’ mode on this criminals and starts taking them out one by one.
Movie Quality: 8/10
The print is presented in 1080p with a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. ‘Braven’ really looks fantastic on Blu-ray considering this film was in the woods the entire time. Colors are absolutely eye popping and jump off the screen like you would not believe. Red’s, Blue’s, and Green’s dominate the color palette throughout the entire film. Details are fantastic, especially with the violence on the screen with blood splattering all over the place. The lighting is also fantastic here as you can see in the darker scenes as an example where the images doesn’t look like one dark black screen as in some films. Black levels are deep in this film and stand out very nicely with the color palette used.
Video Quality: 10/10
The audio is presented in DTS-HD MA lossless 7.1 mix. If I thought the video was impressive, the audio mix is out of this world. The thundering bass stood out as one of the most positive aspects of the audio mix in my view. It was so perfect sounding, which I haven’t heard such great bass in a Blu-ray film. This film is so dynamic sounding, balls to the wall non-stop action which takes advantage of the soundfield. Then add the dynamic sounds coming from the rears in the soundfield. You can hear the various gun shots just whiz by from speaker to speaker, it is just amazing when you have the correct audio setup.

‘Braven’ was a pretty good movie considering it’s an independent film. I really enjoyed the storyline, the action was good, the whole thing had me invested from beginning to end.
