iZombie: The Complete Third Season DVD Review
“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.”
Will Seattle become the capital of the zombie homeland? In season three, Liv has discovered there are more zombies living in Seattle than she previously believed, including a private military contractor employing a zombie army that is preparing for the day humans learn of their existence. Major finds acceptance in this army, and Liv and Clive investigate the murder of a zombie family that may set off an all-out zombie-human war. Ravi’s former boss at the Center for Disease Control shows up in Seattle to investigate the Max Rager massacre. Blaine finds living as a human with no memory of his evil past is more blessing than curse. Peyton pulls at a thread in one of her cases that may lead to the villain that’s pulling all the strings. This action-packed season will see Liv take on the traits of a dominatrix, a JACKASS-style stunt man, an office gossip, a pre-school teacher, a conspiracy theorist, a dungeon master, and more.

It’s not a zombie show at all, really. Yes there are zombies, a few Night of the Living Dead creatures occasionally pop up, but only because the poor saps have been horribly mistreated and deprived of fresh brains. But the rest of the zombies are just, you know, regular people, some bad, some good that were unfortunate enough to have been infected by a mysterious zombie virus and then try to maintain a normal life while trying to find fresh brains to eat without killing anyone.
Luckily there’s a brain delivery service run by Blaine DeBeers, a delightfully cynical ghoul capable of the worst atrocities while knocking out a decent rendition of Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. I suppose a gimmicky weekly whodunit’s’s not for everyone, but the writing’s clever, the actors capable and charming. Plus Liv Moore, (Rose McIver) prepares one or more brain recipes each week that would give her championship credos on Chopped.

I’ve not been this entertained since Buffy or Angel and, honestly, I think this show has them both beat for not only raising the bar but keeping it consistently high. I highly recommend checking iZombie season two three and if you have not seen the first two seasons yet then you need to go pickup the first season on DVD or Blu-ray or if digital is your thing that is an option too.
