transformersenergondvdIf there is an animated franchise that continues to release DVD after DVD set, it is the ‘Transformers’. Since its debut in the 1980’s, ‘Transformers’ has had many different series. This has to be one of the most successful animated television shows. Paramount releases the latest in Transformers Energon: The Ultimate Collection. This is one Ultimate Collection that does the franchise and this series justice.

This expansive set is spread over seven discs with 51 episodes. This series starts off rather different than any other of the ‘Transformers’ animated series. Both the Decepticons and Autobots actually have agreed to work together to attain the power source Energon. The ultimate goal is to restore Cybertron to what it was many years before.

The problem is that this agreement can’t last long enough between both the Decepticons and Autobots. The battle emerges between both factions and even worse is that there are traitors that wouldn’t be expected. These traitors are not out to help the either side, but to help themselves. The Autobots end up making friends with the humans again as they try to protect the universe and search for the Energon.

The Energon series is probably one of the most enjoyable ‘Transformers’ cartoons in a long time. I have a five year old son and we have watched various versions of the ‘Transformers’. This is one of the more captivating and enjoyable series in a long time from an animated standpoint. Things may not be perfect with this show as no show is perfect, the series captivates the viewer.

The print is presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Colors are very colorful and vibrant. Animations are also detailed and great looking. There is some grain throughout the print which is not as distracting as some may believe.

The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0. This is a front heavy presentation which sounds very good. Action and battle scenes have a nice punch making fights/battles seem more epic. Dialogue comes through the center channel very clear.
